Justin Trudeau: The World’s Last Hope?

We came across an article that touted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the world’s last hope. This is a very interesting premise, given his track record during his last three years in office. Our question is, who is he a hope for?

According to the article, Canadian politics have remained remarkably unchanged and predictable. He is compared most favorably with world leaders such as Angela Merkel, Theresa May and Donald Trump.

Justin Trudeau has consistently supported and defended special interest groups, consistently supported and defended the Islamic community in Canada.  He has consistently refused to equate Islamic terror attacks with the ideology of Islam itself. Many in the Muslim community in Canada have lauded him as an advocate for Islam.

Top Canadian Imam  Dr Massoud Al Nadvi,  has stated that Trudeau, like his father, will leave after him a legacy, and “Allah will really use us [Canadian Muslims] here [in Canada] as a carrier of Islam, as a messenger of Islam.”

Trudeau’s administration stopped Canada’s air combat role against ISIS and pushed forward the motion M103, a motion brought forward to silence any criticisms about Islam. On January 31, 2016, Trudeau stated, “But on the other hand, we need to make sure that we are working with communities, like the Muslim community, for example, to demonstrate that Islam is not incompatible with free and open western societies”. This is in spite of the fact that Canadian Islamic organizations have refuted this claim.

But, is the Islamic community in Canada content with the current leader? According to an article by Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, there are rumblings in the Muslim community.

“Within the Salafist camp in Canada, they slam Trudeau for the “hostile” treatment of Muslims by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) that try to promote reforms among the Muslim community in Canada. Trudeau is also criticized for supporting tyrannical regimes in Muslim countries, sending forces to areas of conflict in the Middle East, and promoting a secular-liberal platform that destroys Muslim families.According to the Salafists, Trudeau is not the savior of the Muslims, but rather embodies a dangerous threat to the Islamic values of the Canadian Muslim community.”

As the 2019 federal election draws closer, will Trudeau still be considered the ‘World’s last hope’ by the Canadian Muslim community? Will he still be considered the ‘World’s last hope’ by any Canadians?
